Today Is Your Day

  • Memorial Day … We Remember ...

Remembering loss is not something we like to do. It brings sadness. It brings tears. It hurts. Yet, Memorial Day is a day to do more than that. It is a call to honor. To respect. To give thanks.

Those who died while serving their country remind us of the true meaning of sacrifice.

We enjoy freedom in this country because of the sacrifices of brave men and women. We have been offered freedom in our hearts because of the sacrifice of Jesus.

On this weekend, we pause to remember. To honor. To respect. And to give thanks.

Take a moment to thank God for the men and women who gave their lives.

Take a moment to thank God for the salvation He offers through Jesus, who gave His life … and defeated death.

    Thankful,
    Chad

Today Is Your Day

I have the honor of serving in a new role at Grace Community Church in addition to my role as College and Student Pastor. On Sundays, I serve alongside of an amazing team of leaders and volunteers at our Kenwood campus of Grace Community Church. As I've been serving there, God has given me a passion for the Kenwood community and a burden to pray daily for them. And one of the things that I pray regularly for is Jesus to change the hearts of people in that community and raise up Christ followers there. And Jesus has done just that, and changed lives there.

Sunday, September 23rd we celebrated with those who have become a follower of Christ and took the next step in their relationship with him by getting baptized.

During the beginning of our worship gathering yesterday, I was backstage with one of the pastors at Grace, Chad Rowland, and as I was praying for the morning, I felt God leading us to open up the baptism to those who may not have even prepared to be baptized that morning but wanted to take that next step.

As I opened the baptism celebration and baptized my new friend Debbie, and Ron baptized Jessica, we were so excited about what God had done and is doing in those two women's life. When we wrapped up the baptism portion, I saw out of the corner of my eye two people running down the hall toward me. I thought...uh oh, the video feed didn't work and we are going to re-dunk these two ladies. But NO! These two had run out of the gathering so that they could be baptized. They didn't have a change of clothes or a towel and they hadn't prepared for getting baptized. But one thing was for sure. They knew God was calling them to take that next step NOW. After interrupting the closing of the baptism, we happily baptized Dalia and Thomas. We wrapped them up in a tablecloth and gave them new Grace t-shirts and celebrated with them.

After the service, I had countless people from the church come up to me and say that they were willing to give up their pants, shirts so that Thomas and Dalia could have dry clothes. Sunday morning people left church fired up and excited to be a part of what God is doing in the community. I was so encouraged by Thomas and Dalia's excitement and urgency to do what God called them to do, RIGHT NOW.

What is it that God is calling you to do that you have put off?

What is that ONE THING that you need to take off and run to be a part of?

Today is your day!
