The larger we get as a church …

“The larger we get as a church, the smaller we need to become.”

I have heard that statement many times by church leaders in other churches.  I’m beginning to see it as true for Grace Community Church.

This past fall we began another growth spurt after adding our third service.  We have new visitors coming every week and our average attendance has been at least 30% over the same period the prior year.

While this is an exciting time in the life of our church, there are also natural challenges that come with growth.  It could become harder to know people, for example, if intentional steps are not taken by the new people coming to the church. In addition, more people need to join community groups; therefore, we need more community group leaders.  There are more volunteer spots to fill, so we need more people serving.

The good news is that when we meet our needs in groups and volunteer service roles, we also accomplish the need for people to connect with others.  The best way to form relationships in any church is through opportunities other than sitting in the worship services.  While this is an important part of any person’s week, and one we encourage everyone to do as their minimum at Grace, the real way people connect and grow is through community groups and volunteer service.

That being said, there are two obvious questions I need to ask you:

Have you joined a community group?

We have groups that meet Sunday through Thursday nights.  There are different groups based on geographic location, age groupings, and groups made up of married, single, or a blend of the two.  If you have questions about group life, please consider emailing Ben Reed at ben@gcomchurch.com.  We will do all we can to make this fit with your schedule, but the simple fact is you will never fully connect to the life of Grace apart from being in a community group.  It is a vital part of who we are as a church.

Have you found your place to serve at Grace?

There are more opportunities at Grace to serve that I could list here.  We try our best to match people to a volunteer role that meets their talents and interest and we love helping create ways people can fulfill their passions to serve others, but the bottom line is that it takes 100’s of people each week to make Grace work as a church.  The truth is, however, that those that sacrifice and serve others end up gaining far more than they give.  People tell us all the time that when they found their place to serve at Grace was when the church really began to be their home.  If you are still looking for something to do on Sundays, during the week, or even in the community, please email Rog Hill at rog@gcomchurch.com.

I remain overwhelmed at what God is doing at Grace Community Church. I look forward to the days ahead and hope you are equally excited.
