A resident is typically someone who is working in their respective field, and receiving training in that same field concurrently. That is what the residency-in-mininstry program is fashioned after at Grace Community Church.
The focus of this program is to give young leaders practical ministry experience beyond that which is offered in a seminary classroom. Residents will participate in the normal flow of staff life at Grace Community Church, and will be treated as staff members.
If you wish to continue in full-time ministry, this program will give you the practical ministry experience you need to set you up for success. You'll instantly be a vital part of a healthy staff as you are a part of our team. This program will give you hands-on experience leading volunteers, planning and executing ministry projects, operating with other staff members, and other responsibilities that staff members maintain.
As a part of the program, we also offer theological training. We have a partnership with Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, who has a campus in Nashville, TN, a short 45 minute drive from Clarksville. You will be able to pursue your graduate degree while putting the theological training into action in real-life ministry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this for?
We have in mind that this program is geared for the recent college graduate. This is ideally suited for someone who is headed towards full-time, vocational ministry.
Should I choose to apply to this program, or go straight to seminary?
We'd like for you to do both! As a part of the benefits of this program, we will pay your tuition, and give you the flexibility to attend the classes you need.
What are the requirements?
- Completion of an undergraduate degree
- Call to ministry (as outlined in the Application packet)
- A vehicle
- Medical insurance
Is this a full-time job?
Yes. We will expect you to work a minimum of 40 hours/week. But we'll give you federal holidays off, and 2 weeks of vacation over the course of the year.
How long does the program last?
The initial commitment is for 12 months. During that 12 months, we will sit down and evaluate whether a second year is a good fit for you and for Grace Community Church.
So is this a glorified intern program?
No. It's much more. It's hands-on ministry, where you'll be treated as a staff member and held to the expectations of staff members. You won't be treated like an "intern." You'll be viewed as a vital part of our staff team.
When is the application deadline?
The deadline is March 15th 2013.
What is the application process?
Download the application here. After submitting your application, you will receive an email confirmation letting you know that we received your application. We will review all applications after the deadline, and select applicants for phone interviews. At this point in the process, we will contact all applicants to let them know whether they have been chosen for an initial interview. If you have been selected for an interview, we will provide further details for you. Selected applicants will then be invited to an in-person interview with the leadership team at Grace Community Church.
When does the Residency in Ministry Program start?
What ministry tracks are available?
Each of our areas of ministry at Grace are available for application. On your application, you'll indicate the area(s) you're interested in.
- These areas include:
- Creative arts ministry
- Small group ministry
- Student and Children Ministry
We are also open to other ideas, depending on how you're gifted and where your passions lie.
Does this residency include a paycheck?
Yes. We offer a stipend. In fact, here are all of the benefits:
- Monthly stipend
- Seminary tuition
- Housing arranged
- Specialized training
- Access to leadership development
Am I allowed to work outside of the program?
We ask all Residents not to have an outside job for the duration of the Residents in Ministry program. The program itself will demand much of your time and effort. Combine that with your graduate work, and you'll have little free time to have a job.
Am I guaranteed a staff position at the conclusion of the program?
No, there are no guarantees. But we are confident that the experiences you gain while you're in the program, and the connections that you'll make, will open many opportunities for you in the future.
