Every other year I read the Bible in the year and this is one of those years. Genesis, the first book, has always challenged me, because it’s the beginning story of men and women choosing to follow a God beyond their ability to completely understand. I love, for example, reading as Abraham followed God unwaveringly even through difficult circumstances. At times, all Abraham had was a promise. God had promised to richly bless him and Abraham trusted God for that reward, even when he didn’t have all the answers and things didn’t seem to be working out towards God’s promise.
In the shortly over 4 year history of Grace Community Church, God has continued to take our simple vision of reaching people that long to find answers to life’s struggles far beyond anything we could have imagined. I am overwhelmed with the opportunities before us as a church in 2010. The staff has been praying and planning for some exciting initiatives this year. No doubt there will be times when we are stretched, times where changes will be required, and new celebrations, as we rejoice in the good things God continues to do around us.
This past couple weeks, reading Genesis, my greatest concern and prayer is that we would be people of faith, like Abraham, and that we would be willing to follow God’s leading, regardless of the costs, even when we don’t always understand where He is taking us. He has promised to be amongst us anytime we gathered in His name. Let’s continue to seek His presence as we reach for the stories He has for us in the days to come.
Are you ready to join me in this year’s faith journey?
